Do you really wanna be like them,
Do you really wanna be another trend?
Do you wanna be part of their drill?

this used t be good friend, her birthday is coming. i was invited t participate in her birthday celebrations/surprise, but i declined. then it got me thinking about birthdays.
i always looked forward t my birthday, because of the expected presents that would come in. i always hoped that my friends would get me something that i could use, and it'd even be greater if i got this huge package that awaited t be opened. but looking back, t me, most presents are something that are just grabbed off the shelves in a hurry and just for the sake of making up a present for the other party. what for, what for.
it was a major headache last year, while the seven of us struggled frantically t plan HUGE surprises for one another. it was even harder thinking of fresh ideas and concealing everything. it was pleasant and heartwarming yes, but something just got me started thinking.
i would not be able t celebrate my birthday in ease for the next two years, because of exams. =# and like, i had chinese prelims on my birthday last year. and i finally understood the fact that, my birthday is just another day. in the sense that, i no longer view it as superbly important nor significant.
yes, it'd be nice t be able t celebrate it with your loved ones, it'd be nice t receive huge presents. but what really touches my heart and connects straight t me now, are nice letters/cards. and i dont see the need t go t any extreme to organise a mega birthday celebration anymore. nicky's birthday showed that we didnt need to do much. but he was happy nonetheless right? (:
i haven found anyone who'd write a super long letter t me, the way i realy like it. haha. it'd be nice, right. i love loooong letters (: thts why i try t write long letters. ahah. and i guess t me, birthdays arent measured by the amount of presents you receive, but by the amount of people who bother t really write you something t wish you well, by the people who actually remember, without the need for friendster reminders/handphone calendars.
i'm over presents, i just would love t receive those heartfelt, sincere cards/LOOONG letters :D but then again, i aint expecting much. i experienced a mega disappointment last year, i dont want t be affected by anyone this year. so... i shall just take my birthday, as just another day.
